Kansas Churches Connecting in Ministry
Welcome to our web site.
Kansas Ecumenical Ministries is a state-wide gathering of major Christian communions
designed with one purpose in mind: to bring diverse people of faith together as one, in
order to live out the mission of Christ's Church in Kansas. We trace our roots through
several Kansas ecumenical organizations dating back to 1865.
The work of the churches across denominational lines, and on behalf of all people,
dates back to the early years of the settlement of Kansas. In the mid-1800s, Sunday
School classes were being formed, and by 1865 the Kansas Sunday School Association
was formally organized. With few trained pastors, and no employed staff, the KSSA took
as its goal the formation of Sunday School classes in every town and county in Kansas
-and within 25 years, they were successful!
Today, KEM continues to connect churches across KS in ministry together In a variety
of ways. Common issues include poverty, health care, and advocacy. With only a 1/4
time Director, KEM continues to an ecumenical voice for churches across the state.
