Kansas Ecumenical Ministries 2007 Focus: PRAYING FOR KANSAS CHILDREN
We invite Kansas churches and people of faith to pray and act on behalf of the
children of Kansas and children everywhere.
Prayer for Mentors
Leader – God of faithfulness and truth, through the ages and
even now you send teachers and prophets to proclaim
your vision of peace for humankind.
People - May we hear your word this day as we gather to
remember your love for all peoples.
Leader – We give thanks for the messengers of faithfulness and
truth we have experienced since childhood.
People – We give thanks for faithful parents, grandparents,
teachers, coaches, pastors, childcare workers and all who guide the footsteps
of our children and inspire them to a greater vision.
Leader – We pray for those who mentor our children and ask your blessing
upon them as they relate to young people
who journey into an uncertain future.
People – God of faithfulness and truth, may we love our children
as you have loved your children, with patience and
understanding and great compassion.
All- Forgive us when we fail to guide our children toward the
greater good and empower us as we walk with them and
discover the gift of abundant life.
The Kansas Mentors program is an initiative of Governor Kathleen Sebelius
and former Kansas State University football coach Bill Snyder. This program
“will help communities without mentoring opportunities find the resources and
tools they need to start their own programs. By working with local school
systems, communities, businesses and various service organizations across
the state, Kansas Mentors will help to bring supportive and caring adults who
share our values into the lives of all our children
Here in our state, the Kansas Mentors initiative will help make the vision of a
mentor for every Kansas child a reality. Mentoring can change lives. Statistics
show that a young person who meets with a mentor is:
• 46% less likely to begin using illegal drugs *
• 27% less likely to begin drinking alcohol *
• 52% less likely to skip school *
• 33% less likely to engage in a fight *
Through support, guidance and learning from a mentor, a young person's self-
esteem is strengthened and they're able to better overcome life's hurdles and
realize their goals.
We invest in our children's schools and get involved in their lives because we
care about our children and want them to reach their God-given potential.
Please join us in creating a brighter future for all Kansas children by
participating in Kansas Mentors.”
